Objectives
- To provide quality nursing care to patients and families in Psychiatry and Superspeciality areas, both in the hospital and in the community, through multidisciplinary approach
- Teach and improve the standard and quality of mental health nursing care given to patients by nursing students.
- Make necessary arrangements for mental health postings annually.
- Record and report all activities undertaken by members of the department.
- Conduct programs for professional development and research activities systematically.
- Collaborate with other departments of the organization & institute to achieve desirable goals of the department.
- To build up research potential in the department
- To provide advisory and consultation services in the field of Mental Health Nursing, including education and research
Functions
- Actively assist the head of the institution in ensuring professional standards and quality of teaching
- Advising and contributing to curriculum development
- Coordinating the teaching and learning process
- Setting examination papers for summative and formative assessment
- Ensure adequate supply of study material for students
- Mentoring teachers within the department and guiding students
- Maintaining record of all departmental activities
- Initiate research projects and programs to improve professional skill and knowledge
- Clinical supervision of nursing students in assigned wards
- Guiding research activities of undergraduate students
- Continuous Professional Development and publications in indexed journals
- Celebration of World Mental Health Day
